SEASIDE AND TOURISTS

„ Britain may liave more ports on the South Coast in time for next summer’s Continental traffic. - It is hoped to gain £5,000,000 worth of foreign tourist traffic by this step. Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Bournemouth. and Kamsgato are not “ approved ports ” at present.' This means that there are no aliens control offices at these centres, and foreigners may not be landed there even for a day. An official of the Brighton Corporation said that the corporation, supported by the other towns, had secured from the Home Office a concession that, while aliens must be landed at Nowhaven or Folkestone, they might return from -the seaside resorts. “ This does not satisfy us,” the official added. “We want legislation to turn the great holiday centres of Britain into approved ports.”
