MONOGRAMMED MATS
Monograramed table linen is being seen more and more frequently on smart dining tables, states the ‘Cape Times.’ Sometimes a pastel-tinted linen cloth has very largo, plainlydesigned initials in the centre, embroidered in white or in n deeper shade of the colour of the cloth. Dinner mats, too, often have the owner’s initials embroidered in the centre or one corner. The actual embroidery may take the form of plain satin stitch or a cut-work initial may bo chosen. Perhaps the newest idea in table mats is that of using cork mats themselves without any linen mats -upon them. Square cork mats are usually 'chosen,, and they are often decorated in quaint designs carried out in dark brown, red, or bright. green stain. Here, again a monogram is sometimes the chosen scheme of decoration, or simple scenes, such as that of a ship or a few “ Noah’s Ark ” trees may be used.
