A very pleasant afternoon was spent on the Montecillo croquet lawns on Wednesday, when the members assembled to farewell Miss M’Millan (matron of the Montecillo Convalescent Home), who was one of the first;members of the club. The table was daintily decorated for the occasion with lovely flowers, red; and gold being the chief colouring. After afternoon tea Miss Black (president) presented the guests of the afternoon with a crystal jewel case and a'bouquet of x-oses, and wished her all happiness in her retirement. Miss M'Millan suitably replied. Leith Club. The president of the Leith Croquet Club (Miss Steven) took the opportunity on Saturday last, during the tea adjournment, of welcoming home two club members (Mrs J. Rhodes and Mrs H. Walker), who returned during the week from visits to Great Britain. Interclub Play. A correspondent asks me to obtain a ruling on the following point:— “ When playing doubles in interclub matches may the captains arrange the opposing pairs without regard to their bisquing? That is, may the pair in one club with tho lowest aggregate bisques be put to play against the pair from the other club with the highest aggi'egate?” This is a question to be decided by the Match Committee of the association, but as it is not possible to get its ruling this week I have asked the president of the association for herruling, which is as follows:—“Captains may an-ange tho pairs to play together, according to what they consider their best playing strength, without regard to their place in the team, but when the opposing pairs are arranged the top pair from on© club must play against the top pair from the other.” The question is one that has not arisen until this season, and at the first meeting of the Match Committee a rule will be drawn up to cover this contingency.
