The following entries were received for the knock-out competition:—Mornington, Northern, Roslyn-Wakan, Technical, High School. Seacliff entered conditional on it being given a homo match. Its letter was held over for a week. The first round, it was decided, should be played on August 24. Air Wyness remarked that this was the first season in his 26 years’ experience that the two leading _ teams had not entered for the competition. _ Mr Ball: We are only “toadying’ to them when we allow a leading team to go on a visit before the competitions are over. THIRD, FOURTH, AND FIFTH GRADES. The Northern Club wrote that tho closing of the third grade competition ivaa not satisfactory to the winners nor, it believed, pleasing to the other clubs in the competition. _ Seven or eight Saturdays for play still remained, and the interests of the third grade pi avers would be better served by the holding of a further competition. It was agreed to play a third round of matches, not to be counted for the cup, which has been awarded already to Northern. The round is to commence on August 24. Maori Hill A ; with 25 points, were declared the ■ winners of the _ fourth grade, with High School (23 points) as runners-up, and it was decided to hold a knock-out competition, commencing on August 24. THE SOUTHLAND VISIT, Correspondence from Southland prior to a visit of the team to play the Otago juniors last Saturday was read. The Chairman said that a later letter from a local supporter on the subject of Otago’s treatment of the Southland team would also be considered. Prior to last week’s meeting the committee had decided to play the South-land-Otagp match as Hie main fixture^

hut owing to the uncertainty of a visit from the minor association the Fletcher Cup game was then fixed as_ the main attraction. It was not till Friday afternoon that the association definitely knew that the match would eventuate. The association had had to look ahortd in making its arrangements, but evidently Southland and some of the local supporters who had been interested in the games for some years had taken exception to the match being played as a curtain-raiser. Mr A. Wyness said that the other letter referred to him, and he saw no reason why it should bo taken “ in committee.” However, tho discussion was taken in committee. GENERAL. R. Dickinson was granted a transfer from Corinthians (Invercargill) to Seacliff. The use of three grounds at the Oval was granted to the Boy Scouts’ Association on the afternoon of September 7 for tho annual matches.
