To meet a labour shortage in the wheat fields with the harvest season reaching its height, relief headquarters at 16 counties stopped the dole payments to force the unemployed to accept work, at the prevailing pay of 2dol a day with “ keep.” Planters are complaining bitterly that most of the normal labour supply is now on relief andthat the majority refuse to accept work at comparable rates.
