WEATHER FORECAST
f ' FAIR FOR THE PRESENT The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office,_ Wellington, covering the south* ern district—-Dunedin, Port Cbaimer*, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill. Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—An anti-cyclone covers New Zealand, with its centre over the eastern half of the South Island. A slight depression is passing to the north of the Dominion, while a rather deep one is still located over south-east Australia. Forecast: Light, variable winds, tending northerly, and gradually freshening. Weather fair, but .cloud in. creasing shortly. Seas smooth to moderate. FINE DAY FOR SPORT.
Fine Saturdays have been plentiful for the winter sports season, and today would compare favourably with any for pleasant weather. At dawn there was a frost of 2deg, but as in usually the case-the sun was bright throughout the morning, the sky being cloudless. It was the ninth successive fine day, and there was no indication that the fine spell would be broken during the week-end. At noon the barometer was steady at 3Q.3m, and the temperature was 62.1 deg, the minimum recording for. the morning being 43deg. The temperatures, for 24 hours yesterday were a maximum of 51.7 deg and a minimum of 38.8 deg,
