GLADYS MONCRIEFF

BIG CHARITY CONCERT On Wednesday, July 31, in the Town Hall, one of the best concerts that has ever been presented to a Dunedin audience will take place, when Gladys Moncrieff and all-star artists will assist. This is the second charity concert of the year arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, and gives every promise of being even better than previous concerts. There is a bigger cast of artists in the concert, and Gladys Moncrieff, the Queen of Australia’s musical comedy, will _be the star attraction of the eyening. Other artists who wore not in the

previous concert are Gil Deck, the celebrated pianist and conductor; Vincent Aspey, the Dominion’s leading violin soloist; Frank Perrin (lull of funnyosities); and also John_ Robertson. New Zealand’s own brilliant cornetist, and Walter Kingsley, English baritone. The concert which took place in Wellington on Thursday, July 11, was packed to the doors, and the _ following extract is from the 4 Dominion ’ “Gladys Moncrieff, Australian _ musi-,, cal comedy soprano, was the principal attraction which drew a multitude to the Majestic Theatre, Wellington, last evening, and in her and many others who performed in the programme sponsored by the N.Z.8.8. for the benefit of the mayor’s relief fund, the packed house was far from disappointed. In almost every respect the entertainment, which was entitled ‘ Brighter and Breezier,’ might well serve as a model for the future flesh-and-hlood variety in New Zealand.” The New Zealand Broadcasting Board is to he congratulated in arranging such a concert for the mayor’s relief fund. Already numerous requests have been made for reserves, and the box plan arrangements are advertised, 1
