EQUIPMENT FOR BRITISH NAVY ’ POTENCY OF AIR ATTACK RECOGNISED Pres* Association —By Telegraph—Copyrigh) LONDON, July 19. “ The Navy is about to double and eventually quadruple its anti-aircraft armament,” states -the ‘Daily Telegraph’s ’ naval correspondent. “ This is a tacit admission of the potency of air attack, which is _ expected to be more formidable as aviation progresses. The Nelson and the Rodney carry six 4.7 in anti-aircraft guns, and other latest battleships and cruisers 4in guns. The battleships Warspite and Malaya are undergoing refits and will be the’ first to have eight long-range guns, probably of new calibre and all controlled as a unit. Each will be capable of firing 80 to 100 high explosive shells per minute at a sky target 'to the maximum ceiling visibility. _ Battleships which are laid down in 1937 will each,,have 16 guns.”
