RALPH LYNN AND MAE WEST
PRINCIPALS OF MAYFAIR’S FEATURES ‘ A Cuckoo in the Nest.’ which will be shown at the Mayfair to-morrow, with ‘ Belle of the ’Nineties,’ is the picturisation of the famous farce by Ben Travers. This picture is welcome because it brings together the famous comedians Tom. Walls and Ralph Lynn, and restores to the fun-loving public the benefit of the team work of the happy band of players whose previous performances had earned universal appreciation. The combination spells perfect harmony in any farcical situation; and in this story of absurd' misunderstandings involving two eminently respectable married couples, it is not disappointing. ‘ A Cuckoo in the Nest ’ is said to.be the funniest of their comedies seen for some time. Mae West, who admits that she is at her best when she is acting a woman at her worst, is said to be at her best in the latest contribution to the screen, ‘ Belle of the ’Nineties.’ As the queen of hearts and’ diamonds who takes Dixie by storm and charm. Miss West returns to the period of the gay and naughty ’nineties in a lavishly-dressed, handsomely-mounted entertainment. Surrounded by three new leading mon —Roger Pryor, John Mack Brown, and John Miljan—with Duke Ellington and his orchestra, Miss West acts the part of a St. Louis burlesque- queen who goes down to New Orleans to win the hearts of the southern cavaliers.
