HEAVY LOADING

CITY ELECTRICAL SUPPLY ALTERATION IN DISTRIBUTION PROPOSED ’ During the past three weeks the loading on the system has been abnormally heavy (states the report of the Electric Power and Lighting Committee of the City Council). For a short period on the 18th ult. Waipori wds carrying 16,700 kw, Waitaki DOOkw, and the Diesel engines 500 kw. In addition, it was found necessary to use the steam plant on several occasions. The total estimated load carried was 18,500 kw, compared with 16;170kw last winter, or an increase of over 14 per cent. This increase in the load raises the question of an _ alteration in the present system of distribution, with a view to bringing the 30,000volt circuits from Halfway Bush into a more central location, and so avoid losses on distribution. The city electrical engineer has been instructed to go into the who.le question and bring down his report and recommendations in due course*.
