EARLY N.Z. SCENES

GIFT TO NATIONAL GALLERY [Pn United Pbbss Association.] WELLINGTON, July 17. A notable gift to the National Art Gallery was announced to-day by the secretary of the hoard of trustees, Mr F. H, Bass. It consists of a of water-colours and drawings of the late Mr J. C. Richmond, which, apart from their high merit as works of art, are of great nistorical interest. Most of the pictures are early New Zealand scenes and landscapes, and as records .of bygone days their value cannot be measured in terms of money. The gift has, been accepted by the board of trustees from Mr Esmond Atkinson, executor of the will of the late Miss D. K. Richmond, who was custodian of the collection of pictures and drawings left by her father.
