NEW ZEALAND TEAM'S TOUR GOOD WIN IN OPENING MATCH Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright NEWCASTLE, July 17. The New Zealand women’s hockey team against u representative Newcastle team to-day was as follows: Goal: Mrs O’Connor. Backs: Misses M'Donald and Woolley. Right-half: Miss Gudsell. Centre-half: Miss Sanson. Left-half; Miss Mackie. Right-wing; Miss Savile. Inside-right: Miss MTvenzie. Centre-forward: Mrs Reid. Inside-left: Miss Drake. Left-wing: Miss Cotter. Showing superiority in practically every department of the game, the visitors won by 5 goals to nil. Their display was of a type almost unknown to the Newcastle public. The players were in fine fettle, and they gave a brilliant exhibition of stick work, clever passing, dribbling, and push shots. They showed how simple the game is when reduced to essentials. Their effortless style was the subject of general admiration. The left-wing, Miss M. Cotter, was the outstanding player. She gave a polished display, and showed amazing accuracy. Newcastle were not altogether outclassed, and they came within scoring distance several times, but found difficulty in finishing off the movements. Goals were scored for Now Zealand by Miss M. MTvcnzie (4) and Mrs H. Reid. STILL UNBEATEN INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM [Per United Prms Association.] AUCKLAND, July 17. After a hard fought game the Indian hockey team beat Rodney by seven goals to two at Warkworth this afternoon. India fielded a combination of almost test side strength, Dhyan Chand being the only outstanding player not chosen. The ground was sodden and uneven, and the Indians were not seen at their besL India’s goals were scored by Rup Singh (4) and Wells (3). and Rodney’s by D. Jones and T. Grimmer.
