NEW ZEALAND AND SWEDEN. LONDON, July 17.—Mr Coates, pending the meat treaty, has concluded an arrangement for most favoured nation treatment with Sweden, terminable at three months’ notice, VOTING SYSTEM AT GENERAL ELECTION. The possibility of an alteration to the electoral laws before next election, involving a change to some system of preferential voting, has been freely discussed in political circles. Questioned, Sir A. Ransom said that although the matter had been discussed tentatively, no concrete proposal had been placed before Cabinet.-v-P.ress Association.

AIR ROUTE CONTROVERSY. ‘ Further protests, were made today against the proposal of the Transport Co-ordination Board to exclude Palmerston North from the Aucklantl-Dunedin Main Trunk service. Mr Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, replied at length to the further statement from the board. He said it contained many noticeable inconsistencies. Wellington City Council had no inkling of the possibility of Palmerston North being excluded until the board’s announcement was made in April, and naturally had made no representations in that respect. He questioned whether the action of the board ip dealing with the Palmerston North issue in camera, and in declining to hear the City Council’s representations, was in accordance with the' Act. That was a matter for further considera-

tion, ' and such action as was deemed advisable.

A protest in similar strain was made also by Mr Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, who also said that there had been nothing to suggest the possibility of the exclusion of Palmerston North. —Press Association.
