TAIERI RIVER TRUST EMPLOYEES At yesterday’s meeting of the Taieri River Trust the unemployed relief workers requested that they be employed on a full-time week, similar to the permanent employees, for the winter months. It was decided that the present subsidy workers be given six. days a week for that period. , ■ , ? It was also decided employ all available men under the No. 5 scheme on drain cleaning for the next few months, subject to the foreman’s approval. AN AUCKLAND OPINION RELIEF MEN ON SUSTENANCE THIS WINTER. [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 5. ' The opinion that some time thu winter all relief men would bo on sustenance was expressed to-day by mem•bers of the Metropolitan Relief Committee. Mr F. M. • Waters, who ia chairman of the Manukau County Council, said that local bodies were finding it more difficult to provide work. They had not the funds with which to continue the present system. The secretary of the committee said he was pestered all day by men wanting work. They haunted his office asking for , work. They did not want sustenance. A Member ; “ The position is not as bad as last year.” The Secretary: “Indeed it is.” The Mayor of Devonport said he agreed with Mr Waters that this winter would see all relief men on sustenance.
