ASPARAGUS BEDS

No time should bo lost iu top-dress-ing the asparagus bed. All weeds should be removed. Then slightly prick oyer the bed, being careful not to disturb the crowns which at this season of the year have forced themselves near to the' surface. After this has been done lay all growth carrying seed down on to the bed, covering the whole over with at least sin to Bin of well-rotted manure. On no account use new stable manure, as the ammonia would injure the crowns. Failing animal manure, a_ similar material such as leaves or mowings! from the lawn will make a good substitute. F.S.G.
