PROFITABLE TOUR
ENGLISH TENNIS PLAYERS £9OO AS NEW ZEALAND'S SHANE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 27. Details of the substantial profit which accrued to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association as a result of the English team’s tour were given at to-night’s quarterly meeting of the council of the association. The chairman of the Management Committee (Mr A. G. Henderson) said that the profit was approximately £SOO to the New Zealand Association, and £4OO to the local associations. The gate takings at the dominion championship tournament held at Auckland, about £550, were a record for any tournament in New Zealand. The large gate was no doubt due to the draw card that Perry was. The tour of Ewen and Kay, continued the chairman, though of benefit to the minor associations, was very poor from a financial viewpoint. Mr Henderson announced that a team of junior players under twentyone would be sent to Australia next year. It was uncertain yet whether the team would include girls as well as boys.
