ENGINE STALLED

LEVEL GROSSIHQ SMASH [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., February 27. While the van driver was endeavouring to 1 start the engine of a bread delivery van which had stalled on the Vance street crossing at Shannon this morning the mail train to Napier crashed into the vehicle, smashing the body to matchwood. The driver, Lawrence Palmer, a young man, sustained a wound to the back of his neck and an injury to the hand. He was taken to hospital.
