RIFLE SHOOTING
KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB ’ The Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club fired (he third stage of the Centrewood Cup competition on Saturday, fifteen members shooting. The afternoon was fair, with a strong breeze from the rear, and passing cloud alternating with bright sunshine. The feature of the day’s shooting was R.„ M'Crostio’s 48 at each range, setting up a new club record of 96 for ten shots at 300yds and 500yds. The previous record was held ’ by J. Frazer, who scored 95 on December 19, 1931. Other good scores were:— I T. Frazer 46 at 300yds, W. Oliver 46, E. Espie and R. Thomson 45 each, J. JVTGuire, J. Alexander, V. Middlemass, and M. Brown 44 each at 500yds. With three out of five shoots in, the leaders for the cup are:—R. M‘Crostie 279, J. Alexander, T. Frazer, and P. J. 11‘Guire 271, J. Dick 269, and B. Espie 268, seven others having scores from 263 to 266. Championship totals now are R. M'Crostie 746, J. Frazer 726, M. Brow 708, E. Espie 707, R. Thomson 703. Next Saturday the fourth shoot of the match, ten shots and two optional sighters, is to bo fired at 500yds and 600yds. The first shoot of a ladies’ match is also to be fired next' Saturday.
