OBITUARY

MR JACOB ISAACS Cable news has been received of ths death in London on Friday last of Mr Jacob Isaacs, in his ninety-fifth year. He was in his day one of Dunedin’s prominent business men, arriving here from Melbourne in the early ’seventies. Later he became a partner of the late Mr Bendix Hallnstein, of Dunedin, when the New Zealand Clothing Factory was established. He remained an active partner until 1890, when he retired, and four years later took up his residence in London. Old residents of Dunedin are able to supplement the above message. Mr, Isaacs was a London man. When he first came to Dunedin he was associated with Heymanson, Low, and Co. Then he became a partner with the three Hallenstein brothers, of whom the late Mr Bendix Hallenstein was the Otago representative. Mr Isaacs married s daughter of Mr Michaelis, of Melbourne ; thus he became brother-in-law of the late Mr D. E. Theomin. That lady is still alive. The deceased was uncle to Mr A. L.
