ODDFELLOWSHIP

N.G. Bro. C. Brady presided over ft large attendance of brothers at the last meeting of Unity Lodge, when, bowls and cards were played between Unity and Linden and St. Kilda. Bro. R. R, Hendry, D.D.G.M., was also present. Brothers from Hereweka, Pioneer, Leith, and the competing lodges addressed the meeting. By invitation Linden Lodge took charge at St. Kilda on Tuesday night, when an initiation was carried out by the visitors. The new member was welcomed and invited to visit the St. Kilda Lodge whenever possible. Visitors from the city lodges congratulated the officers upon a very fine ceremony. Pioneer held its meeting on Wednesday night, Bro. S. Burtenshaw, N.G., presiding. Preparations were made for the concert in March, this matter being left to the Social Committee to arrange. One candidate was initiated. Reference was made to the efficiency shield, and also the next meeting of District Lodge. ■ Visitors from Leith, Linden, and St. Kilda replied to the visitors’ welcome, and spoke of the pleasant evening they had spent. Bro. M. Gray, P.G., was in charge at the last meeting of Leith Lodge to carry out the syllabus item—Burns Night. Bro. Gray gave the members a brief history of" the poet’s life and works, and then read some of his better-known poems. The haggis was then piped in, and Bro. Gray delivered the ode and invited members to enjoy themselves. Renderings of traditional Scotch airs and songs, interspersed with humorous items, occupied the rest of the evening. Bro. Gray was accorded a vote of thanks for the entertainment. Many veteran brothers were present, and replied to the visitors’ welcome. Maori Hill Lodge members were entertained at their last meeting by Bro. F. H. M‘Arthur, who gave an interesting address on the three C’s—colour, class, and creed —and illustrated, the great work done by friendly societies in breaking down the barriers so caused and bringing mankind together in the bonds of friendship. The speaker gave a selection of very interesting poems and anecdotes. Bro. M'Arthur was thanked for his interesting address. Bro. J. Chisholm. V.G., was in charge at Linden Lodge last meeting. One "new member was admitted. Visitors from Pioneer, Leith, Unity, and St. Kilda congratulated the lodge on its steadily increasing membership. Proposals in regard to a social night next month were presented by the Social Committee and adopted.
