DUNEDIN CLUB
There was a good attendance at the Dunedin Whippet Racing Club’s Meeting held on the Hunt Club’s grounds on Saturday evening, when dogs from Omakau, Christchurch, and Invercargill took part. The principal race, the Dunedin Derby, was won by the Christchurch dog Satin Boy. The track was in first-class order, and the officials worked hard to make the meeting a success. Mr W. Henderson was judge, and his decisions were promptly given. 3 j Results: — Dunedin Whippet Derby, losovs. 175yds.—Mrs A. Wing’s Satin Boy 1, C. N. Unwin’s Our Rose 2, Jbalcon and Priece’s Red Flyer 3. Also started: Phnephoria, Starmaine, Pitz Palu. The field got away to a good start. Our Rose held the lead for the greater part of the journey, the two Christchurch dogs putting in their claim nearing the post, and in a gruelling finish Satin Boy won by a long neck from Our Rose, with Red Flyer one length away in third place, and the rest of the .field well up. Our Rose drew away slightly to win by a neck, with Silver Dollar a long neck away third. Time, 10 4-ssec. Second heat: Happy Days (101yds) 1, First Flight (12yds) 2, Lady G. (81yds) 3. Also started: Wynfall (121yds), Sister Rose (121yds), Star Master (9yds). Time 10 2-ssec, Third heat: Border Queen (121yds) 1 King Pin (111yds) 2, (l^s) 3. Also started: Mah Boy (121yds), Cashier (121yds), Chenwood (IJlyds). Time, 10 3-ssec. Final: F, Tanners Happy Days 1, F, Tanner’s King Pm 2 W H Turner’s Silver Tom 3. Aso started; Biplane, First Flight, Border Queen, Biplane and Border Queen led out, but Happy Days had the race m hand a long way from the post cveniually winning by two lengths, with the third dog a neck away. Time, I °Open eC Hurdle Handicap, five flight. I7svds Mr F. Tanner’s Happy Days (9yds)’ 1 Mrs W. Guthrie’s Biplane mivds) 2, J. Winder’s Lady G. (111yds) 3. Also started: Wynfall (171yds). Red Flyer was scratched. Wvnfall led over the first three hurdles, Biplane and Happy Days then carrying on 5 but Happy Days’s pace told, and he ran on to win comfortably by one length, with Lady G. close up third.
