PATHS RESERVED FOR 15,000,000 CYCLISTS
One hundred thousand cyclists are involved in traffic accidents annually in Germany. In an attempt to decrease to some degree these alarming figures, the Reich is planning to build a conn-try-wide web of special paths for cyclists, in addition to the gigantic network of express motor roads now being constructed. The first of these_ paths will be laid from Berlin to Stettin. It is estimated that there are 15,000,000 cyclists in Germany. This means that every fourth German rides awheel. In the industrial and mining districts the percentage of cyclists is even greater. In the Ruhr district 47 per cent, of the urban population and 56 per cent, of the country inhabitants use bicycles. The results of a bicycle census taken at the factories shows that 20 per cent, of all office workers and 60 per cent, of the factory hands use bicycles to and from tbeir work.
