AGAINST FASCISM AND WAS
The first monthly meeting of the Dunedin Council Against Fascism and War was held on Wednesday in the Harrop Street Hall. Mr A. B. Powell presided. The report of the Provisional Committee was read and adopted. Correspondence was received from the Secretary of the New Zealand Movement Against Fascism and War giving a report of the proceedings at the national anti-war conference, held in Wellington on August 4 and 5. The main result of the conference was to lay the basis of branch organisations throughout New Zealand. The secretary was instructed to forward to the National Committee a report of the activities of the Dunedin Council.
It was decided to publish a manifesto drawing attention to the great danger of war, and stating the objective and programme of tho council. It was resolved that a deputation from the council approach the various trade unions with a view to securing their collaboration in resisting war propaganda and preparations. The Provisional Committee was authorised to make arrangements for a public meeting, at which the policy of the council would be explained and the horrors of war illustrated by means of lantern slides. It was decided in future to hold general meetings of the council on the second Wednesday of each month.
