The Cape Government has resolvedto annex Bechuanaland.- * * * * Tawhiao, the Maori king, is at present in England. ,11c presented to Lord Derby (Colonial Secretary) a petition for the restoration of the rights of the Maoris. V * * * At the annual- meeting of the Dunedin Curling Club the following officebearers were elected :—President. Mr James Scoular; vice-president, Mr A. M‘Diarmid; chaplain, Rev. Dr Stuart; treasurer and secretary, Mr George H. Moodle; Council of Management — Messrs .William Wright. W. ,C- Smith, J. IT. Morrison, John M'Neill, James Anderson; and James Jack. After the initiation of several new_ members the company sat down to their annual dinner of “ beef and greens.” * * * • General Election hold in the colony. The voting in Dunedin and suburban and some of the country constituencies was: Dunedin East—Robert Stout, 755; AI W. Green, 515. Dunedin West —W. D.' Stewart, "503; Hon. Thomas Dick, 481.. Shrimski. 483; Lord Reidhaven, 391. * * * * The second match between an AllEngland eleven and the Australian team was played at Lord’s. England won by an innings and 5 runs.
