BIBLE CLASS CAMP

OUTING AT WAITAHUNA The fourth annual canlp of the South Otago R.Y.M.B. classes was held this year at Waitahuna from Thursday, May 10, to Tuesday, May 15. Fortunately, the weather was all that could be desired, and the forty-six campers under the supervision of the Rev. A. M'Neur, Milton, as camp father, assisted by other ministers and leaders, ' had a very pleasant and profitable time. On the Friday a visit was made to the mining claim'' at Wctherstones, where the officials in charge showed and explained the methods of work. On the Saturday evening an excellent concert was given to local friends by the campers, who were assisted by B.C. girls from Milton. Some of the stunts and sketches were cleverly conceived and carried out. On the Monday evening a lantern lecture was given on scenes from Biblical places. The theme of the camp was 1 The Sign of the Cross,’ the study book written by the Rey. Bower Black, of Auckland. The main theme was dealt with by various speakers, as follow: On the Friday night the Rev. Roy Alley, M.A., of Balclutha, gave an address on the 1 Fact of the Cross.’ His talk to the young men was beautiful in its simplicity, and attentively listened to by the members. On the Saturday morning the Rev. J. S. Strang, of Gatlins, gave a helpful message, ‘ Christ Crucified: The Power of the Cross.’ In the afternoon there was a missionary meeting, the missions convener, Mr James Mitchell, gave a talk on our own activities, dealing especially with those we are more particularly interested in and responsible for. The Rev. H. H. Barton, M.A., of Lawrence, who held a position for many years as missions secretary of the Presbyterian Church, gaye an inspiring address, urging his hearers to take a long look,'a wide look, an upward look, and a confident look art our missions, “ for Christ’s own kingdom shall come on earth, the kingdom of love and light. - ’ On the Sunday morning the Rev. A. M‘Neur conducted the church service. In the evening a special camp service was held, led by the Rev. Colin MaoKenzie,, B.A. Three musicians from the camp led the singing. A quartette, ‘ We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations,’ was sung by four members, and the campers sang the hymn, ‘ Just as 1 am, Thine Own to Be.’ The president of the South Otago district spoke on the work and aims of the Bible Class Union, and showed how well the work was progressing. The Rev. Colin MncKenzie then spoke on ‘The Risen Christ: The Victory of the Gross.’ On the Monday evening the Rev. A. M‘Neur spoke on ‘ Enlisting Under the Cross,’ On the Tuesday afternoon the sports competition was held, and it was interesting by reason of the meeting of two junior champion runners in lan Chandler (Mornington) and 1-es. Geddcs (Clydcvale). The results were as follow:—Senior; Leu Dunn (Waiwera) 33 points, D. Campbell (Wairuna) 18, Juniors: I. Chandler (Mornington) 23, L. Geddes (Clydevale) 20. The campers are grateful to the people of Waitaluina, whose generosity helped so inucli towards the success of this camp.
