ARREST OF MR STEPHENS OFFICIAL EXPLANATION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, May 17. (Received May 18, at 10 a.m.) It is officially explained that Mr Stephens was arrested because be photographed buildings of chemical factories at Magdeburg, contrary to the old laws. Mr Stephens is not permitted to leave Magdeburg. [A previous message stated: Storm Troopers arrested Mr Pembroke Stephens, tho ‘ Daily Express’s ’ correspondent, his wife, and his wife’s cousin, Mr G. P. Reynolds, near Dassau. Mr Stephens was motor touring in search of details of Germany’s economic condition. _ Tire party was arrested after he had inquired the reasons for tho industrial activity in tho Aken forest. The police questioned the trio for several hours, then locked them in separate hotel rooms under a guard. Eventually they handed them over to tho secret police at Magdeburg, and they were later released.]
