TRIAL OF WILLIAM BAYLY
OVER SIXTY WITNESSES TD BE GALLED [P*Jt Utfirao Parss Amociatiok.l AUCKLAND, May 18. Upwards of" sixty-five witnesses are likely to be called by the Crown at the trial of William Alfred Bayly, which will open before -Mr Justice Herdnian in the Supremo Court on Monday morning. Bayly was arrested on December 4, and is charged with the murder of Samuel Pender Lakey and his wife, Christohle Lakey, at Ruawaro, on October 15 last. It is expected that the trial will last between four and five weeks, and the court may sit on Saturdays. Mr V. B. Meredith and Mr F. McCarthy will appear for the Crown, and Mr E. IT. Northcroft and Mr L. P, liCary for the defence.
