STRUCK BY FALLING TREE. Neil George M'Kay, aged twenty-live years, was fatally injured on his farm at Alfredton when he was struck by the limb of a falling tree. A wind of almost gale force wan blowing at the time and uprooted a large rimu tree a branch of which struck M'Kay when he stepped out of a nearby tent. Death is thought to have been instantaneous. The tragedy occurred in very rough country, and the settlers had an arduous task bringing the body to the homestead.
