TRAFFIC CONTROL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A nasty collision between a tramcar and. a motor occurred at the intersection of Cumberland street and Hone street to-d.ay. Some time ago there was instituted a “ Come to Dunedin ” week, and what a beautiful reception the visiting motorist from the north gets! He sails in admiring the city and the shops, and then—bang! He finds descending on him one of our tramcars, and only when he has woke up does he discover what has hit him. ft took the council years of thought to improve the King street crossing with a sign that is nearly washed out already. At each intersection arc two posts, and a wire could lie stretched between and a large notice with “ Tram, Drive Slowly,” hung in the middle, with red light in the middle at night. It is all that is required, and would cost little. It is wonderful the money that has been spent on the signal at Stuart street, where few accidents occurred, and yet the council will neglect the danger spots. It would only need a car load of our councillors to be tipped upside down by the Howe street car. and then perhaps the car would be taken round Duke street, or through the back of the Gardens. Ido hope the proper authorities will attend to the matter this time, as accidents like this do not improve the nerves of elderly .people living in the vicinity.— I am, etc., John M'Connaohie. Mar 17.
