CRUDE PLEA FOR ARMAMENT
LEAGUE PRESIDENT OH NAVY CHIEF'S SPEECH The President of the Auckland branch of the League of Nations at a branch luncheon yesterday (says a Press Association telegram) strongly criticised recent public utterances of Rear-admiral Burges Watson. “ 1 have never seen a pica lor armaments put on a cruder and lower basis,” said the president (Mr Willis Airey). “ The whole tenor of the speeches was militaristic and pessimistic, and bolstered up the dea that war is coming and we must he prepared for it. It is extraordinary that the educational authorities should permit such statements to be made in a country which is a member of the League. Wc should do all we can to counteract that Jonn of propaganda.”
