RUNAWAY PRISONERS

Tlie two prisoners who escaped from Rungitoto yesterday, Roy Taylor, aged twenty-three, and James; Maeandrew, aged twenty-five, were recaptured this morning near Taupiri. They were exhausted and suffering from exposure. The men said they obtained a dinghy on Rungitoto and rowed in a rough sea to a point on the mainland which they did not know They walked inland and followed the reads until they reached Papatoetoe, where they found a small car. This they flrove till the petrol gave out, and they continued southward. Asked why they had escaped, they said they were fed up with it and hated it all." ■ Maeandrew was due for discharge in a few weeks and Taylor in less than three months.
