AUSTRALIAN BANKS
AMALGAMATION DENIED POSSIBLE EXPLANATION OF RUMOURS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 17. (Received May 18, at 1.55 p.m.) The Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia officially state that the rumours from Australia that negotiations are in progress for their amalgamation are without foundation. Mr G. D. Healy, superintendent of the Bank of Australasia, and Mr W. A. Leitch, general mauager of the Union Bank, both left Melbourne for London recently to consult their directors. The simultaneous visit to London of these two no doubt is responsible for the rumours of amalgamation which have been current for some weeks in Australian financial circles.
