(Received May 18, at 1 p.m.) “ Official complaints are reaching the Jockey Club that there is at present much rough and reckless riding,” said Mr D. G. Smith, senior steward, at a meeting of the dub. The meeting decided to republish the warning issued in 1923 against reckless, careless, and erratic riding, and threatening the offenders with immediate suspension.

Miss Holm (the winner) said: “ ‘ Pam ’ played finely. Undoubtedly she will be a title winner soon.” Miss Barton’s morning lead was due to her remarkable putting.
BASKETBALL FIXTURES
The second grade basketball match Varsity v. Albany has been cancelled. In the third grade, Musselburgh and Maori Hill will meet at Forbury.
RUGBY IN FRANCE
BRITISH UNION'S DECISION INTERNATIONAL MATCHES NOT TO BE RESUMED. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, May 17. (Received May 18, at 1.30 p.m.) The British Rugby Union has informed the French Federation that the time is not yet ripe for the resumption of international, matches, adding that the federation has done much for the recovery of Rugby, but not sufficient. As long as the game is not played in France in the same spirit as it is played in Britain, and, above all, as long as the present system of competition exists, it will be impossible to consider arranging international fixtures.
