NEW INSULATING FOIL

TEMPERATURE REDUCTION LONDON, May 2. The properties of a new material called aluminium metallic foil were demonstrated by Dr G. P. Crowden, of the department of industrial physiology of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Sir Austen Chamberlain. presided. Dr Crowden stated that tho insulating properties of a layer of foil were equal _to 13in of brick. An engineering firm in London had agreed to manufacture the material, which would bo obtainable at 9d a square yard. In appearance it is like cigarette foil. Through experiments in Egypt, Dr Crowden found that petrol tanks lost through heat about seventy gallons a week. By insulating the tanks with the new material there was practically no loss.
