THEFT AND SETTING FIRE TO PREMISES MESSAGE BOY'S FOOLISH ACTS [Ft* United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 16. George Edward Hill, aged eighteen, was charged with stealing £3 10s from his employers (Armstrong and Springhall) and with wilfully setting fire to the premises. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. He told the justices that he was too poorly paid to clothe himself decently, and he stole the money to buy clothing and started a fire to cover the theft. The accused was a message boy. He was given a cheque to cash to pay fourteen small accounts, but paid none. He entered the office after business hours and set fire to some paper. The premises were damaged to the extent of £l2O, and stock and fittings £1,095. The secretary of the company said the boy’a wages were 12s 6d a week.
