STANLEY LUPINO AND THELMA TODD

POPULAR STARS IN BRITISH COMEDY ‘ A 7 ou Made i Ale Love You,’ the British comedy with music, which will start on Friday at the Regent Theatre, might well be described as, the 1934 version of ‘The Taming of the Shrew ’ for its hilarious story deals with a modern Pctruehio who bends to Ins will a verv beautiful hut extremely selfassured and fiery Katherine. He does not do so without many misadventures and strenuous efforts; and therein lies the fun of this scintillating production.

Stanley Lupino is the woman-tamer, and Thelma Todd, one of Hollywood’s leading comediennes who is now in England, is his most unwilling victim. He meets her in a traffic jam and falls in love at first sight. But when he pops the question she promptly throws him out. But he lias her father, who naturally snatches at any chance to get his shrewish daughter married off, on his side, and eventually she meets him at the church. He has to carry her off after the ceremony in handcuffs, however, and he has plenty of trouble on his bands before he finally makes his wife discover that she is really in love with him.

Thelma Todd is at her best as the spoilt darling who is finally forced to realise that the man should rule the home. She provides Lupino with an excellent foil for the brand of foolery for which he is noted. There are merry and tuneful songs in the film and a. fine supporting cast, and altogether ‘ You Made Me Love You ’ strikes a very cheerful note in entertainment.
