LABOUR PARTY PROPAGANDA.
■ \ J TO TUB EDITOR. -Mrs Herbert has certainly hit the nail on the head when she states that the little pamphlet, ‘ Women and the Labour Movement,’ written by Mrs E. M'Combs, M.P., evidently upset me. No wonder when one understands the inherent nature of Capitalism and that Parliament only exists at the pleasure of influential financial interests, or, in other words, so long as it acts to the satisfaction of the powerful interests behind the scenes. A clear case r this assertion is strikingly displayed by the recent events in Germany,-where the failure of .the Reichstag to sit ns a harmonious body forced the wealthy section of the German people to ' get behind the man who talked to the discontented masses in terms of Socialism, but who‘ was prepared to act on behalf of the existing ruling class by the establishment of a military dictatorship as soon as he had hoodwinked a sufficient number of people to support the Nazi or Fascist Party. Now, under the Hitler regime, the German workers are being forcibly oppressed, while the Labour Party of Germany lias been pushed into the background. As previously indicated. Parliament is part of the State apparatus, the function of which is to maintain order, to -preserve the privileges of property, and suppress the propertyless. The Social .Democratic leaders of the Labour Party conceive the State as standing above society, as a conciliator of classes, deceive the workers with the belief that they can lie emancipated by voting for Labour candidates, and pin their faith on votes and parliamentary democracy, and that a Labour Government can take over the existing State apparatus and use it in the interests of the community. The Ramsay MacDonald Government appeared ns the steward of the bourgoisic, and never came into conflict with the apparatus of the State. The role of the Labour Government in England was clearly seen when it increased armaments (five cruisers) and conducted air raids against colonial peoples, and used methods of violence against the peoples of Egypt and India. Throughout the ■World the Labour Party reformists, the Social Democrats (all Social Fascists), have demonstrated in their actions quite clearly the necessity to break up and destroy the Capitalist State machinery of bureaucracy, courts of justice (law), military, and police apparatus, and.-to replace it with selfgoverning mass organisations of the workers, who would combine legislative and executive powers. The Labour conception of State Socialism is in reality State Capitalism, organised to benefit a profit-making system. It expresses itself in nationalised industries such as the Post Office, telegraphs, railways, mines, and scientific research. The question of appropriation of the Capitalistowned industries i9,outside the realm of Labour Party parliamentarism.—! am, etc., Disim.usioxed. January 18.
