The ‘Financial News’ says: “The intention of the New Zealand Government to compel banks operating in the dominion to surrender their gold holdings at par has caused indignation in banking circles in London. Several of tho banks affected are British institutions registered here. The measure, therefore, is not a purely internal concern. The loss involved is considerable, and the banks concerned have every reason to resent the unfair treatment. It is hoped that the illadvised step will bo reconsidered before it becomes law.”
