MANNEQUIN BECOMES ENGAGED HEIR TO “COLGATE MILLIONS.” The story behind the romance of a young English girl, Miss Pamela Camroux, who lias become engaged to Mr Robert B. Colgate, of, New York, heir to the “ Colgate millions,” was told in London recently. Miss Camroux, who formerly worked in a London dress store, has recently been engaged as a mannequin in New York, where she met Mr Colgate at a party shortly after she arrived in America three years ago. Miss Camroux is twenty-seven, while Mr Colgate is in his early thirties. The engagement has been kept a secret for some months; and was announced officially only lately. Miss Camroux’s only relatives in Britain are Sir John and Lady Oaklev. of Park Lane. Sir John, her uncle, said to a 1 Sunday Chronicle ’ reporter; “ 1 knew all about the engagement, but did not know that there had been any announcement. “My niece now lives in New Y r ork, where for some time she lias been a buyer for one of the big fashionable dross establishments. Occasionally she conies over to Paris to take back the latest modes. A few months ago she visited us hero in London on her way back'to America. “ Pamela is a girl who has had to work for her living, and was engaged in similar busines in England before she decided to go to New York in search of a jib there.” After the official announcement of tko engagement Miss Camroux carried ou willi her duties as a model.
