TURF IN AUSTRALIA

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, August 31. Racing folk received the first spring diock to-dny when Kuvera was withdrawn from the Epsom and the Metropolitan. It is understood that Kuvera is being reserved for the Caulfield Cup. The Now Zealand horse Bayacre, while schooling over hurdles at Moorefiold, over-reached and severely damaged one hoof, which will necessitate a lengthy spell. Golden Hair, in a gallop with Kuvera to-day, fully extended the latter over four furlongs, which were covered in 49isec. , Fairway’s trainer, A. Neale, is returning to New Zealand, but Fairway will remain hero for the present. Autopay is doing exceptionally well on the tracks, and reeled off a brilliant four furlongs to-day in 49sec, which was one of the best efforts of the morning. Mr Colin Stephen, chairman of the Australian Jockey Club, returned to Sydney after a holiday of several months in England.
