MISS DAPHNE MURDOCH ELECTED HIGHLY-SUCCESSFUL EFFORT Miss Daphne Murdoch, the Dunedin Amateur Swimming Club’s Queen, was elected Queen of the Otago Swimming Centre’s Queen Carnival, which closed Inst night, the declaration of the result being greeted with considerable enthusiasm by the largo crowd that waited at Mr M. Taylor’s photographic studio in Broadway for the official announcement. The voting terminated at 8 o'clock, and within a few minutes of that time the treasurer of the Otago Swimming Centre (Mr E. G. James) was able to hand to the president (Mr J. L. Mr M'indoo extended to Miss Daphne Murdoch the congratulations of all swimmers *on her election, and said that she would bo crowned queen at a coronation ceremony and dance in the Pioneer Hall on Tuesday,' September 20. The speaker referred appreciatively to the work of the ladies’ committees of the various clubs, and said that the centre was most grateful indeed for the effort that had been made on its behalf. The speaker referred to the fine spirit in which the carnival had been conducted, and to tho value of tho social side of the swimming clubs’ activities, the

hope also being expressed that some similar effort would be held annuallv. Cheers were called for Miss Murdoch, and given with a will, and no less was the response for cheers for the other candidates.
