OCTAGON'S COMING FARE
•INFERNAL MACHINE’ AMD ‘WALKING DOWN BROADWAY ’ The new double-feature programme at the Octagon Theatre on Friday consists of a realistic presentation of life in New York, ‘ Walking Down Broadway,’ and ‘ Infernal Machine,’ a romantic comedy. In ‘ Infernal Machine Chester Morris and Genevieve Tobin share the featured honours, while others in the strong supporting cast are Victor Jory, Elizabeth Patterson, Janies Bell, Edward Van Sloan, Arthur Hohl, Josephine Whittell, J. Carroll Naish, and Mischa Auer. Tho story concerns a love affair between Genevieve Tobin and Morris, which starts after a taxicab smash in Paris. Morris takes the girl’s jewels to save them from apaches. He manages to return the girl’s jewels, stowing away on a ship to achieve this, and sho manes her fiance, enacted by Victor Jory, reward Morris by paying his passage. In mid-Atlantic a wireless message is received to the effect that an infernal machine has been planted aboard, and this starts the fun m earnest. Boots Mallory, who is rapidly coming to the front rank of American screen actresses, adds to her reputation in ‘ Walking Down Broadway.’ It is a splendid film of present-day life in New York. Boots Mallory and Zasu Pitts are cast as two typical New York girl clerks who share a room. The romance that springs up between one of the girls and a young savings bank salesman is worked out against the busv, restless background of Broadway, New York’s greatest street. James Dunn lias the loading male part.
