DIRECTORS MEET At the final meeting of the year of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors there were present Messrs J. L. Salmond (in the chair). 0. J. Darracott (treasurer), H. K. Wilkinson, P. Findlay, H. P. West, Geo. Salmond, W. It. Smith, J.. It. Fairbairn, Rev. C. J. Wilcox, and the general secretary. The budget and financial statements were submitted by the treasurer, discussed, and approved. Membership and Gymnasium Fees.— Considerable discussion ensued over membership and gymnasium fees, and it was decided to meet existing conditions by a reduction in all fees, thus making it possible for everyone to enjoy the privilege of membership and gymnastic instruction. The Dunedin Association’s fees would thus represent the lowest in New Zealand, and. this decision should do much to place the Y.M.C.A. facilities within the reach of all.' , General Work.-—The general secretary’s report indicated that with the advent of the Christmas season most of the major activities were in recess until the new year. Big Brother Movement.—lt was stated that a comprehensive report on each little brother had been forwarded to the child welfare department. Cricket.—lnformation about the new club was tabled, much satisfaction being expressed at its success and the possibility of the dub’s growth. Publications.—The General Secretary reported on the production of a booklet embracing the association’s wide activities for 1933, which would be issued in January. m , Physical Department.—The Director presented his report, as follows: —Gymnasium; With the season proper having ended last month, activities in the gymnasium have lessened considerably, and with the exception of a few business men and younger men attending at various times for instruction all classwork has ceased. The recent spell of warm weather also helped to lessen the prospect of many carrying on a little longer who otherwise might have done so. The following are the attendances for the various activities this month:—Gymnasium: Business men 16, seniors 76, boys 42. Gymnasium and boxing: Unemployed youths 140, residents’ basketball 40, younger mens division games 70, boys’ division games 93, gymnasium social 150. During the month the senior gymnastic championships were held, and provided an interesting and very close contest by those participating on the various apparatus. The results were as follow:—First, F. G. MTherson, 98 points (for the third time in succession); second, R. Sellar, 97 points: third, A. Mudie, 92 points. Thanks are duo to Mr W. Matthews for acting as judge. Gymnastic tests were also held for the business boys and High School boys, and in both groups good work was exhibited by the majority of those who entered. Unemployed Youths. The attendances in the gymnasium in the mornings were falling off, so activities have recently been transferred to the beach at St. Hilda. Unfortunately so far the weather has been against us m our outdoor venture, and only a few have been out. , . , , , Social.—The final social and dance proved an outstanding success, and served as a very fitting wind-up function for the season. About 150 members and their friends were present. During the evening the president presented the trophies won by pupils during the season. BOYS’ DIVISION. The boys’ division report was as folClosing Function. —On the night or November 30 the boys and their parents met together to witness the presentation of awards and the finale or another venr’s work in the history of the boys* division. There were about seventy present in all. Mr J. ft. hairbairn took the chair and presented the awards. Badges and trophies were given for best influence, all-rounders, and oratory. , Boys’ Camp.— Pleasure was expressed by the board on the progress report of the boys’ camp, and the kindness of the Rotary Club and Patriotic Association in making it possible to take in many needy boys. The generosity of many firms in presenting goods was also deeply appreciated.
