MANCHESTER UNITY

At the annual summoned meeting of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., the following officers were elected for the half-year-N.G., Bro. J. Thomson; G.M.. Bro. E. Lyall; E.S., Bro, _ H. Wright; warden, Bro. A. Chadwick; guardian, Bro. 1. Thomson. The P.G.M., Bro. C. L. Calvert, and P.P.6.M. Bro. E. Longworth were in attendance, and conducted the installation of officers, assisted by P.P.G.M. Bro. P. Young and a number of visiting brethren from the city lodges. The evening was also the fifty-third anniversary of the Mosgiel Lodge, and a cordial welcome was extended to two of the original members, P.G.s Bros. A. Cameron and W. Callick, both of whom joined the lodge on the opening night, on December 16, 1879. Before closing a vote of thanks was accorded _ the district officers and visitors who assisted in the installation. The Loyal Valley Lodge was well attended on Monday evening, when the annual summoned meeting and election of officers took place. N.G. Bro. R. Russell presided, and extended a welcome to three members of the District Executive and a number of visiting brethren. Two candidates wore initiated, and a proposition for membership was received. . For some time past a representative committee has been considering the question of fittingly celebrating the fiftieth anniversary and jubilee of the lodge, which takes place in August next year. The committee submitted a full report recommending the following functions: — (1) Grand anniversary ball. _ (2) That a remit be placed on the business paper at the annual district meeting, that the 1933 half-yearly meeting of District Committee be held in the lodge room of the Valley Lodge, Albany street, in conjunction with the lodge jubilee. In this connection it is proposed to hold a banquet in the evening in the new M.U. Hall, Stuart,street. (3) A social evening for members find their families. (4) As Valley is part sponsor of the Loyal United Juvenile Lodge, it is proposed to entertain the boys on their own lodge night. (5) A “free and easy ” night for the old members. A church parade will also be held. The report was adopted and appreciative reference was made to the work of the committee. The P.G.M.. Bro. Calvert, was in charge of _ the installation of officers, the following being installed: —N.G., Bro. J. Scott; V.G., Bro. J. Macdonald; E.S., Bro. F. Hogg; G.M., Bro. R. Russell; warden, Bro. Ombler; guardian, Bro. M'Farlane. There was a large attendance of members at tire summoned meeting of the Loyal Caversham Lodge, held in lodge hall. Forbnry Corner. N.G. Bro. L. Esplin presided. A motion of sympathy on the death of an old and esteemed member, Bro. Ormrod, was carried,

members standing in silence for a few moments. The prov. secretary wrote granting permission to cancel the meeting on December 28. A cordial welcome was extended to visiting brethren, among whom was Bro. Stokes, prov, treas. of the Southland district. Speaking on the work of the order in Southland, Bro. Stokes said a suggestion had been made that the winners of the ritual competition in his district should meet the winners of tire Otago district competition. He was sure such a meeting would prove of an educational nature, and he was deputed by his own district to place the matter before the Otago Executive. Should such a meeting be arranged the Southland lodge was willing to come to Dunedin for the purpose. Tim report of the sick visitors disclosed a larger number of members than usual on the funds. Regret was expressed at the illness of Bro. Lawry, son of P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Lawry. It was stated that his illness was the result of his diving into the river in an attempt to save life in a drowning fatality, and it was decided to forward a letter to Bro. Lawry sympathising with him, and expressing the best wishes of members for his speedy recovery. An old member of the lodge, Bro. Haddock, was welcomed after an absence from Dunedin of thirty-five years. The election of officers was held, and the P.G.M. Bro. C. L. Calvert conducted the installation, the following being installed:— N.G., Bro. V. Dixon; V.G., Bro. G. Stevenson; E.S., Bro. J. Stevenson; warden, Bro. Adam; guardian, Bro. Snook; G.M., Bro. Esplin. P.P.G.M. Lawry and P.G.s Rennie and Isaac were elected to the Hall Committee. The appointment of Arbitration and Social Committees was deferred until the adjourned summoned meeting in January. Following a discussion on the B.M.A. proposed panel scheme for lodges, a resolution was carried that it was not considered suitable to the Caversham Lodge. The summoned meeting was adjourned for four weeks, and on resuming the ordinary meeting representatives of visiting lodges responded to the visitors’ toast, the district officers acknowledging the toast of the executive. The lodge recently paid an official visit to the Loyal Oamam Lodge, and it was resolved to forward to that lodge a letter expressing thanks and appreciation for its hospttalitv. Prior to closing the N.G. extended season greetings to members and to the District Executive. The Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge met at Lawrence, when ‘ there was a good attendance of officers and members. _ After dealing "with ordinary business the an* nual summoned meeting was opened, when the following officers wore elected: —N.G., Bro. S. T. Murdoch: V.G., Bro. F. Grav; E.S., Bro. J. W. M Kinlay. P.G. Bro. Lilburne (Loyal Milton Lodge) carried out the installation,

p.G. Bro. A. Hart acting as conductor. P.Gr. Bro. A. C. Moore later conducted a degree lecture. Visiting brethen. present were P.G. Bro. Lilburne (Milton), P.G. Bro. S. Varcoe (Albion), and P.G. Bro. S. E. Varcoe (Valley). A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Bro. Lilburne, who came from Milton to assist at the installation of officers. It being the final meeting of the year, appreciative reference was made to the work of the officers, and the meeting closed with an exchange of seasonal greetings. The Loyal Caversham Juvenile Lodge concluded a successful year’s activities, when there was a large gathering of members and visitors at the final meeting, held in the lodge hall, Forbury Corner, the N.G., Bro. M'Kenzie, presiding. An enjoyable programme was presented, both juvenile and adults contributing acceptable vocal and instrumental items, while a community sing, with Sister V. Lunam at the piano, proved popular. Following the programme supper was served, and later prizes were presented to the winners of competitions held during the year, as follow:—Senior badminton, Bros.
