A FIVE-SHILLING TOTALISATOR.
TO TrE EDITOR. Sir, —Notwithstanding _ tlm advice tendered by “ St. Clair ” in ihe ' Star of July 5 the executive of Ibo For bury Park Trotting Club sidetrack;; the institution of a os totalisator. I lie oxecutivo cannot, by hiding its head in the sand, stifle the public demand for a smaller betting unit to suit depressed incomes. The action of increasing the outside admission charge in payment
for improved conditions is equivalent to that of the sporting gentleman who invites another in for a drink on the “ I’ll shout, you pay ” system. Tho bettor facilities provided are long overdue, and were the first rights of outside patrons years ago. The improvement outside will certainly induce several hundred former inside patrons to sec next trots from the outside at a cheaper admission fee, hut an equal number of outside patrons will resent the charge and stay away. Inside and outside patrons who attend will not all he investors on a 10s machine, hut an increasing number will place their 2s Gd or 5s bets in quarters whore the prestmt depressed finances of those interested in racing and trotting are sympathetically understood and catered for. —I am, etc., Punter. November 5.
