SOCIETY'S ANNUAL MEETING MORE MEMBERS WANTED A plea to all lovers of Nature to join the membership roll of tho New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society was made by Mr R. A. Anderson, president of the society, in his presidential address at tho annual meeting at Wellington. Mr Anderson said that tho present roll consisted of about 1,500 members, in addition to life and endowment members. Ho said there was a balance of £13,514 from tho art union held last year. Tho money had been placed in a trust endowment fund, and the interest on tho fund was to be used for educational purposes in connection with the society’s objects, and was not to be used _ for its ordinary business, so that while it placed tho society in a very strong position, it did not do away with the need for subscribing membership. The society did not aim at hoarding a credit balance in addition to the endowment fund, but there was such a wide field for its activities that what income it could collect could easily be spent. With the income from the trust fund tho society would bo able to make a decided move forward, but he would like to see something clone to 'interest, tho young peplc, and he hoped that something would bo done to increase the interest of the school children. Mr Anderson said the society storied tho year with a credit balance of £lOl. and.finished with a balance of £SOO.

Mr Anderson paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Captain E. V. Sanderson. Ever since the inception of tho society, which he urns largely instrumental in forming, Captain Sanderson had given his services free. “ lie has given all his time to tho work of the society, and I doubt if there is another official connected with any society in Now Zealand who has given free services in the public interest to the same extent as Captain Sanderson.
