GOVERNMENT DENOUNCED

ADDRESSES BY LABOUR M.P.'S [Per United Press Association.] CARTERTON, April 18. Mr W. E. Barnard, M.P. (Labour, Napier) and Mr J. O’Brien, M.P. (Labour, Westland) addressed a largo meeting at Carterton last night. Both denounced the Government, alleging that its present policy was the cause of the outbreak of riots, which they deprecated. They urged the necessity of ousting the Government, to give Labour a chance. . Labour’s remedy for the present depression was the issue of Treasury notes and the repudiation of debts owing overseas. They extolled the policy of Mr Lang, and stated that Mr Baldwin, when Prime Minister of England, -bad adopted the same method, but nothing was said about it. A small section of the audience frequently applauded both speakers. At the close of the meeting a comprehensive resolution was put condemning the Government and calling on Mr Forbes to resign. A small section of Labour supporters voted loudly in its favour. There were no voices to the contrary, and the motion was declared carried' unanimously by the chairman (Mr. B. Roberts, of Parkvale). The economy proposals, particularly with regard to unemployment, pensions, and wage reductions, were vigorously attacked by Mr P. Eraser, M.P,, and Mr J. W.
