STRANGE "GHOST STORIES"

Lady Cynthia Asquith, speaking on ‘ Ghost Stories ’ at a luncheon in London recently, told a story of a beautiful woman who possessed golden hair, which she always insisted on wearing full length. After her death her husband entered tho death chamber to cut off a lock of the hair, and was found raving mad. He had seen that behind tho golden hair was a face of indescribable ugliness. Miss Rebecca West told of how she wrote a story, based on the death of a friend, describing how the woman had not died at all, but had sold all her valuable jewels and had gone secretly to start a fresh life in tho mountains. She told no one of the story, but put it on one side and forgot about it. Shortly afterwards the maid of the dead woman was taken to a mental hospital suffering from hallucinations. Her hallucination was found to_ be identical with the story which Miss West had invented.;
