WATERSIDER’S DEATH. \ PALL FROM TRUCK. William Thompson, a # waterside worker, aged sixty-six, died in the Dunedin Hospital at 3.40 yesterday afternoon from severe head injuries sustained when he fell from a truck on to the rails at the Port Chalmers wharf in the morning. The deceased was employed uploading wool from a truck into the wool store at John Mill and Co.’s at Port Chalmers, and was on the truck by himself. He was seen at 9.30 putting bails of wool off, and a minute or so. later another employee found that he had fallen off tho truck on to the side of the wharf, and was unconscious. He was taken to the Cottage Hospital, and later, when his condition became more serious, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 11.45 a.m. • The deceased resided at 22 Curna street, Port Chalmers, and was married, with a grown-up family of five. An inquest was opened at the hospital this morning, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, 8.M., sitting as coroner, bergeant O’Shea conducted proceedings rer the police, and the relatives of deceased were represented by counsel. Evidence of identification was given bv Leslie Faulkner Smith, a Civil servant, who said that the deceased was an active man for his age, his sight and hearing being all right.
