GRUMP BEATS BULLIVANT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 12. The re-swim of the 440yds New Zealand intermediate championship held at the North Shore Swimming’s Club’s carnival in the tepid baths this evening between N. Crump (Auckland) and C. Bullivaut.(Wanganui) resulted in a win for the former by Byds in the time of smin 30 3-ssec. Crump led by a yard at the end of the eleventh lap, after which ho forged ahead. The following records were broken ; 50yds New Zealand men’s, held by K. M'Convillo (Christchurch), 25 4-ssec, lowered to 25 2-ssec by R. Franklin; Miss E. Rainey covered 100yds in 71 2-ssec, breaking her own New Zealand junior girls’ record by 3 3-ssec; G. Bridson failed by 2-ssec to lower the 100, yds New Zealand record of 55 4-ssec held by Cameron (Wellington). Miss M. Farquhar failed to break Miss E. Stockley’s 100yds national backstroke figures of 76 2-ssec by Isec.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS' CARNIVAL

Sixteen schools are taking part in the annual Otago State primary schools swimming championships at the Municipal Baths to-morrow night and on Friday night, and competition for the shield is expected to be ususually keen. The competitors in the boys’ events include S. Jarvis, the New Zealand junior boys’ 100yds and 220yds champion, and other swimmers who have taken part in interclub events and who are competing include W. W. Buckland, Miss 11. Jarvis, Miss 0. Buckland, Roy Geddes, Miss Z. Wilson, N. Williams, W. Williams, W. M'Cusker, G. Munro, D Tuckwell, J. Grubb, J. Nicholson, and several others. The entries arc particularly good, and on the first night a demonstration of life saving will be given by members of the Training College Swimming and Life Saving Club, under Mr Rush. On Friday night, W. J. Jarvis, the Otago intermediate 100yds champion, will make an attempt on the New Zealand 50yds record of 25 4-ssec. Last night, however, this time was bettered by twofifths of a second in Auckland, but that performance has yet to receive official sanction. Jarvis passed through the various divisions of the schools championships. Exhibitions are to be given by Reg. Geddes (New Zealand intermediate breast-stroke champion and re-cord-holder) and Miss Maxine Matlneson (the New Zealand ladies’ champion). Geddes, it will be remembered, put up many fine performances at the schools’ championships a few years ago.

BOWLING

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS V. PALMER-STOH-WAIKOUAITI The bowling match between the Commercial Travellers and Waikouaiti and Palmerston Districts, held on the Dunedin Bowling Club’s green on Saturday, was one of the most successful functions in connection with the sports section of the club, and, although the Commercial Travellers were badly beaten, everyone, without exception, enjoyed themselves to the fullest extent. After the match Mr Malloch, on behalf of the visiting bowlers, thanked the Commercial Travellers in a witty speech, daring which he presented the losers with a big “ colonial goose.” Mr D. H. Hill, .the sports chairman, thanked the visiting bowlers and also the Dunedin Bowling Club lor its fine sporting spirit in allowing the Commercial Travellers five rinks on a day when the green was fully occupied with the annual fixture, the HenaghanHarraway Cup match. Mr D. V. Gam, C.T. president, thanked the ladies for providing afternoon tea. After the match the visitors were entertained at dinner in the C.T. Club rooms, Mr D. V. Gain again thanking the visitors and stating that requests from both sides had been made that the match become an annual feature. Mr Hill thanked all those who had helped to make the function such a success. Mr Gillan, past president, made reference to the work done by the bowling supervisor, Mr J. B. Hayward, who had displayed so much energy and given all a *cry enjoyable afternoon. Mr M'Clymont and Mr J. Hoggie also thanked the Commercial Travellers for their hospitality.
